The Care Quality Commission (CQC) are the independent regulators of health and social care. All GP practices have to be registered with the CQC who are responsible for regulating the standards of care provided in health and social care. The CQC carry out regular checks on GP practices and these are called comprehensive inspections. The CQC use them to make sure services are providing care that's safe, caring, effective, responsive to people's needs and well-led. http://www.cqc.org.uk/content/what-we-do-inspection
