RSV vaccinations
From 1st September 2024, a vaccination will be available for eligible patients against RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus).
You'll be offered the vaccine if:
- You're turning 75 years old on or after the 1st September 2024
- You're already aged 75 to 79 years on 1st September 2024 as part of a catch up programme (for the first year of the programme only)
- You're 28 weeks pregnant or more – this will help protect your baby for the first few months after they're born
RSV is an infectious disease which often causes symptoms similar to a cold such as:
- a runny or blocked nose
- sneezing
- a cough
- tiredness
- a high temperature – signs include your back or chest feeling hotter than usual, sweatiness and shivering (chills)
RSV can lead to more serious infections such as bronchiolitis.
When will I be invited and how do I book?
Eligible patients identified by our clinical system will be contacted via SMS or phone call from the end of August 2024. Please use the self-book link within the SMS you receive, or call reception on 01926 33500 to book your appointment.
Can I have my shingles/pneumococcal vaccine at the same time as RSV?
Yes, it is safe to have these vaccinations at the same time.
Can I have my flu/COVID vaccine at the same time as RSV?
RSV won't be routinely given with your flu or COVID vaccination, but in certain clinical circumstances the GP/Nurse is able to safely offer them at the same time.
Is there anyone who shouldn't have the RSV vaccine?
Almost everybody can have the vaccine, but please tell the GP or nurse if you have ever had a serious allergy to a vaccine or any of its ingredients.
